1-4. Installing CANalyzer

Make sure you have your licensed hardware installed before attempting to install your software.  This hardware can either be a USB dongle, a CANcard, or a CANcase.  The license is installed on the hardware at Vector prior to shipping.  If none of your hardware is licensed, contact Vector Technical support.

To install CANalyzer you will need at least 300 MB (Megabytes) of free space on one of your hard drives.  If you do not have this space available, contact your local computer support and have the issue addressed.

Insert your software disk into the CD-ROM drive.  If you have Autoplay enabled on your computer you will first see the Vector CANalyzer Setup splash screen.  To start your installation, click the Install Application button.

If you do not have Autoplay enabled you will need to start the Setup program manually.
1. Open your CD-ROM through My Computer.
2. Open the folder labeled Application.
3. Double-click the icon labeled setup.exe.

Once the setup program has started, you will see the following screen.  Click Next to continue.

You will be asked to enter your License Information on the next screen.  This includes the Company Name you purchased your CANalyzer software under, the Serial Number of CANalyzer, and the CANalyzer License Key.  These can all be found on the sticker that was included with your CANalyzer CD.  Please note that all of these fields are case sensitive.  This means you will need to use proper capitalization and punctuation in order for the installation to continue.  If you have a problem with your installation at this point, contact Vector Technical Support for assistance.  If you wish to only use the demo of CANalyzer, select the Install product demo option and what bus type you would like to use.  When you are ready to continue, click the Next button.

The next screen is the Setup Welcome screen.  Click Next to continue with the installation.

You will now be asked to choose the location on your hard drive to install CANalyzer.  It is recommended that you use the default installation location provided by the software.  If you wish to change this directory, click the Browse button and navigate to your desired location.  When you are ready, click the Next button to continue.

You will now be asked to choose the Setup Type.  You have a choice between the Standard setup and a User-defined setup.  User-defined setup is primarily for advanced users that wish to customize their installation.  Please note that if you choose the User-defined setup, you may not have all the functionality of the Standard setup.  Clicking Standard will take you to the next step of the installation process.  Clicking User-defined will take you to a screen where you can choose which components you would like to have installed.  Once you have chosen which components you would like, click the Next button to continue.

You will now be asked which Program Folder you would like your shortcuts to be in on your Start menu.  It is recommended that you use the default location suggested by the installer.  If you wish to make changes, you may type in a new name for the folder and select a new folder location in Existing Folders.  When you are ready, click the Next button to continue.

The next screen will give you a review of which components are going to be installed on your computer.  If you notice that something is missing, you can click the Back button to return to previous screens.  When you are ready, click the Next button to continue.

The installer will show you a graphical display of its progress as it installs CANalyzer.  The installation will take several minutes and will alert you when it is finished.

When the installer is finished it will display a Completion dialog.  Click the Finish button to complete the installation.

On some older operating systems you may be asked to restart your computer.  Once you have restarted CANalyzer will be ready for use.
