1-18. File types

What file types are used with CANoe?

Program File types
CFG –
This file contains the information about the measurement setup and other formatting pertaining to the CANoe Windows.
CIF –
New to version 5.2, this is a predefined configuration specification written in INI format.

Logging File types
ASC –
Standard log file in ASCII format.
LOG -
Log file written in the Measurement Data Format.  Only for CAN messages.
BLF –
Log file written in the Binary Logging format, supports all bus systems/protocols and Environment Variables.

Other Important File types
DBC –
Standard CAN Database file, contains information on signals, messages, environmental variables.
CAN –
Plain text CAPL programming files.
TXT –
Standard plain text file.
CBF –
Compiled CAPL programming files.  CANNOT BE READ OR EDITED.
CNP –
Display panels used for input and output.
LDF –
The LIN Description File, used when creating a LIN simulation.
CDD –CANdela Diagnostics Description.  This file contains diagnostics information of a bus created using CANdela Studio.

Exportable file types
CSV –
Creates a text file ready to import into a spreadsheet.
MDF –
Log file written in the Measurement Data Format.  Only for CAN messages.
MAT –
Creates a file that is ready to import into MATlab.
DAT –
Standard Windows data file.

How do I tell what files are used with my configuration?

To view what files are used with a particular configuration, click the File menu and select “Files used”.



Clicking the “Save” button will save a list of the files used, while the “Pack” button will use any command line compression tool to save all the files in a single compressed folder for easy transmission to a colleague or to Vector Support.
