Vector Hardware FAQ

Uninstall Vector driver on:

Windows 98 (CANcardX, CANcardXL, CANboardXL):

  1. Open the device manager (under control panel - system). Please delete the entries "Vector CANcardX", "Vector CANcardXL" or "Vector CANboardXL" under PCMCIA-Socket and under CAN-Hardware (if available)
  2. Delete the entry "Vector Virtual Channel" under CAN-Hardware
  3. Open windows explorer. Go to directory Windows\System or \System32, delete all files with vcan*.*
  4. Delete all files with vcan*.*, vcardxl.sys, vboardxl.sys under Windows\System32\Drivers
  5. Go to directory Windows\Inf\other delete the file "Vector Informatik GmbH"
  6. Open your registry editor (start - run - regedit). Delete the following entries:
    • For CANcardX: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCMCIAVector CANcardX DB92
    • For CANcardXL: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCMCIA\VECTOR-CANCARDXL-06FE
    • For CANboardXL: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI\VEN_A000&DEV_0000&SUBSYS_294410B5&REV_0A

  7. Please reboot your computer
  8. After insertion of your card, the "New Hardware found" wizard starts. Please select the directory which contains the latest driver files.

Windows NT (CANcardX, CANcardXL):

  1. Insert your card.
  2. Please uninstall the CANcardX or CANcardXL driver under "control panel - software".
  3. Open Windows Explorer. Please delete all vcan*.* files in the folder: WINNT\system32 and WINNT\system.
  4. Delete the file vcndrvms.dll under WINNT\system32
  5. Please delete all vcan*.sys and vcan*.vxd, vcardxl.sys (if existing) under WINNT\system32\drivers
  6. Open your registry-editor (start - execute - regedit). Delete the following keys: VCANNT, VCANX, VCANXL, VCANV (if existing) under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services. (Please be cautious when using the Registry Editor)
  7. Please reboot your computer
  8. Start setup.exe to reinstall

Windows 2000/XP (CANcardX, CANcardXL, CANboardXL, CANcaseXL):

  1. Please delete the entry "CANcardX", "CANcardXL", "CANcaseXL" or "CANboardXL" under "CAN-Hardware" in your device manager (control panel - system - hardware)
  2. Please also delete the driver for the virtual channels ("Virtual CAN Bus Driver") under "Non-Plug and Play Drivers in your device manager. For this, you have to enable the button "show hidden devices" under "view".
  3. Please browse to the %windir%\inf. (This directory may be hidden - To be sure that you can view all files, select tools/ folder options. In the folder options window, select view, and under "Files and Folders"/ "Hidden files and folders", select the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button). In the Inf directory, browse to the files that begin with "oem" and contain the text "CANcardX". If "CANcardX", "CANcardXL", "CANcaseXL" or "CANboardXL" is contained in the file, please delete both the .inf file and the corresponding .pnf file.
  4. Delete all vcan*.* files in the directory Windows\system32.
  5. Please also delete all vcan*.sys and vcan*.vxd -files, vcasexl.sys and vboardxl.sys in the directory Windows\system32\drivers.
  6. Open the registry editor (Start - run - regedit) HKeyLocalMachine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services delete the keys VCANNT / VCANX / VCANXL / VCASEXL / VBOARDL, VCANV.

    For CANcaseXL:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB all keys and subkeys of Vid_1248&Pid_1000 und Vid_1248&Pid_1001.

    You need a special right to delete these. Please follow these procedure:

    Windows XP: Open context menu with right-click to the keys. Choose "Permissions". Allow "full control".

    Windows 2000: Start - run - regedt32. Choose menu "Security" - "Permissions". Allow "Full control".

  7. Please reboot.
  8. Now the "New Hardware found" wizard will start when you plug in the card. Please select the directory that contains the latest driver files
