Main Properties of a serial bus system

Because of the wiring cost and effort incurred by point-to-point networking and the problems that go along with it, one is forced to seek other networking solutions. The solution is to map the individual communication channels to a single communication medium (Bus). This bus is shared by all ECUs. This information is transmitted bit-serially with the help of so-called frames.

Because of the reduced wiring effort, the material costs for communication end up being lower. Space requirements and weight are also reduced in networking. This has a positive effect on installation, design and fuel consumption. The reduced complexity simplifies handling, and development and startup phases go faster.
